Lake County, California is home to the original boat races. While you may think of this as boats racing on the pristine and ancient Clear Lake, that’s not what this is all about.
Instead, this is hard-core American small town fun where junk cars are chained to junk boats and driven around a race track made slick by using soapy water. The objective of the game is to knock the other racers’ boats off their tow vehicles and all the cars and trucks that participate certainly run the risk of incurring a bit of damage. Or a lot of damage.
While racing is often only experienced first-hand by professional drivers, this is all about the fun and there are groups of friends, families and more who ride along in the tow vehicles.
Check out our fun video on the Lake County Boat Races. We even had our own entry and put a GoPro camera on the dash…though we didn’t quite win the race.
